Kangyatse View Kangyartse Expedition Leh Ladakh IndiaThe Kangyatse peak (6,400 meters.) lies south east of Leh and is reached via the famous Markha Valley trek of 9 days. There are many other peaks around Kangyatse on the altitude range of 5,500 meters and 6,400 meters, which are also available for climbing in the Nimaling plateau.

Day 01: Fly Delhi -Leh
Travel from Delhi to Leh by air. The early morning flight from Delhi gets to Leh in less than two hours. From the airport guests would be transferred to a three star city hotel where they would be housed on full board. Leh is at an altitude of 3500 mts. And all guests are advised to rest for the entire day. A successful trek in Ladakh requires you to acclimatize well.

Day 02: Visit Leh Palace, Shey, Thiksey and Hemis Monastries
This day is meant to provide an opportunity to get a feel of the Palace. Guests will be driven to the Leh Palace, which houses old relies that belong to the sixteenth century ruler of Ladak. Later in the day a trip to the monasteries at Shey. Thiksey and Hemis will also be arranged.

Day 03: Leh - Khardungla Pass (18,380 ft)
After breakfast, start for a full day excursion to Khardungla pass. The Khardungla pass, which is the highest motorable pass in the world, has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. At the top, you can enjoy the natural beauty of snow-capped mountain. In the evening return to the hotel and spend the night there.

Day 04: Phey - Zingchan (4 hrs)
The first day's walk can begin from Phey Village, instead of Spituk. It is a fairly pleasant walk in a south-westerly direction along the Indus on your right. It is long gentle walking before you enter Zingchen Gorge. The gorge is dotted with poplar trees and you reach Zingchen village after an hour's walk. To skip the regular rush of trekkers at the normal campsites it is advisable to continue walking to Hemis National Park to reach the village of Sumdzom. There are nice camping options here and we pitch up here for the night.

Day 05: Zingchan to Yurutse (5/6 hours)
From Sumdzom we walk upstream and then climb up the hill till we get to Gandala Nallah, along which a path leads to high pastures. On the east is a path that leads to Rumbak Village which we avoid taking. Instead we go westward following the path to Yurutse. The flat campsite commands a very nice view of the valley bellow, and we shall pitch up here for the night

Day 06: Yurutse to Skiu (7-8 hours)Kangyartse Trekking Kangyatse Expedition Leh Ladakh India
Today is a long day. The trek up to the Gandala Pass (4870m) takes a little under two hours of steady climbing from Yurutse camp sight. From the pass a well-defined path leads down to Shingo. This descent takes around two hours. Beyond Shingo we head lend for Skiu after crossing the Shingo Nallah. This stretch takes around three hours. Skiu is a fascinating place with ruins of ancient monasteries. Our campsite is beyond the village by the Markha River

Day 07: Skiu to Markha (5-6 hours)
An early start is recommended for this day as it gets very warm when it is sunny, although the walking is not very strenuous. The trail from Skiu leads to Sara where one can stop for a quick lunch. Beyond Sara the trail goes up to the village of Chalak. We cross a river and keep going ahead for around two hours till we reach the swift Markha River. After fording across the river from the shallowest spot we carry on further to arrive at Markha Village. There are a number of options for camping here.

Day 08: Markha to Thujungtse (6-7 hours)
This day is a moderately tough walking day, passing through the villages of Umlung and Hankar. The Kangyatse Peak (6400m) dominates the landscape. The trail goes northwards up to the confluence of two rivers Luntang Chu and Nimaling Chu. At the end of the trail we get to Thujungste village. The campsite is excellent.

Day 09: Thujungste to Kangyatse Base Camp (5200 m)
Today is an easy walk. The trail from Thujungste leads you to Nimaling passing through several Mani walls and shepherd camps. On the way the views of Kangyatse Peak are simply spectacular. Nimaling is a beautiful place and one can spend the afternoon exploring the valley. You can spot Blue Sheep and other wildlife in this area From Nimaling it is a steady climb up to Base Camp (5200 m)..

Day 10: Base camp - High camp (2 hrs)
Today is crucial, so we will spend the morning recuperating from the last few days' fatigue. After sufficient rest, we will embark on a steep 2-hour climb to High Camp (5500 m). Although the distance is quite short, the altitude makes the hike quite strenuous.

Day 11: High camp - Summit - Base camp (9-10 hrs)
The final push, beginning at 2 am , will be both physically and mentally challenging. But once atop the summit (6200m), the surrounding awe-inspiring scenery of Tibet , and the Zanskar and mighty Karakoram ranges, all of our numbing pains will melt away in a warm glow of success! After spending an hour on top of the world, we will descend to Base Camp, where we will while away the afternoon, relaxing and congratulating each other on a job well done.

Day 12: Kangyatse Base - Nimaling (3 hrs)
From Base Camp trail descend down to Nimaling Plateau, offering impressive views of Kang Yaste (6400m). Nimaling - 4700 Mts. is one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh. Overnight in tents.

Day 13 : Nimaling to Shang Sumdo across Kangmaru La (7/8 hours)
From Nimaling the trail crosses the Nimaling Chu and ascends steeply upwards to the pass at Kangmaru-La (5130m). From here the descent is sharp and an hour's walk takes you to Lhartse. The trail leads to Shang River and beyond this are the shepherd camps at Chuskumo and Chukdo. Finally we get to Shang Sumdo where the campsite is located before the confluence of two tributaries.
